Obituary

On March 10, 2022 Sheila Watson Tate was escorted by God's angels to her Heavenly home. Beautiful, sweet, caring, selfless and above all a faithful servant of God describes this precious woman. She cared deeply, and loved immensely, her husband of 41 years and their five sons. Her boys knew without a doubt the love she had for them, and she will always be their Queen. Sheila was also a devoted "Nana" to her grandchildren whom she adored and there is nothing in this world she wouldn't have done for any of them.

Sheila was born December 10, 1962 in Independence, La. to Pastor Roosevelt and Evangelist Jessie Watson. She grew up in Ponchatoula La. and was a member of Straightway Church of God in Christ. Shelia was a graduate of Ponchatoula High School and went on to receive her Bachelors in Educational Studies from Southeastern Louisiana University. She was the Administrative Director for Tangipahoa Economic Development Foundation until she retired. During her time there she was also a 2009 graduate of Leadership Tangipahoa where she enjoyed learning the rich history of Tangipahoa Parish. After her retirement, she spent her time enjoying the company of her family and dear friends.

Sheila will be lovingly remembered and missed by her husband Leo Tate, Sr., her sons; Leo Tate, Jr. and wife Melissa, Shelton Tate and Patty, Corey Tate, Jared Tate, and Jarel Tate and fiancé Ayriona; her grandchildren MeKenna Rae Tate, Ryan Jordan Tate, and Ariel "Cali" Tate; her only sister, Cynthia Watson Cacioppo and husband Glynn, and her two brothers, Roosevelt Watson Jr. and Eric Watson. In addition to her aunts and uncles, Sheila also had a host of cousins, nieces and nephews.

In addition to her grandparents, Sheila was preceded in death by her grandson, Jarel Tate, Jr.

Family and friends will be received at Mt. Pleasant Baptist Church, 18307 Old Covington Highway, Hammond, Louisiana on Saturday, March 19, 2022 from 10:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m. with services to immediately follow.

Interment will follow at Holly Gardens Cemetery in Hammond, Louisiana.

We thankfully acknowledge the special role she played in all of our lives. It is impossible to think of her without feeling a sense of sadness and grief, yet we find peace in knowing she has been received by our Heavenly Father and is now resting in his care.
