Lula Mae Evans was born on March 7, 1942 to the late A.J. and Ida P. Evans in Wilmer, Louisiana. On Monday, December 21, 2020 at approximately 6:30 am, Ms. Lula, who was affectionately known by many as Mama, Maw, and MawMaw, ended her earthly existence at Bedford Care and began her heavenly journey at the seasoned age of 78. It was at this point that we all realized that "Our Loss was Heaven's Gain".

Mama Lula was educated in the Tangipahoa Parish School System, where she was a graduate of Amite High School and she later attended The Southern University in Baton Rouge, Louisiana for 3 ½ years.

Lula gave her life to Christ at an early age and was baptized at Oak Ridge Baptist Church under the leadership of the late Rev. Ivy Williams. She attended church faithfully, parallel to Sunday School and Bible Study. In connection to her membership at Oak Ridge she became a dedicated Lady of the Women's Mission and Gospel Choir where she led songs.

Later in life, Ms. Lula relocated to Picayune, MS where she united with East Jerusalem Missionary Baptist under the leadership of the late Rev. Dr. Alonzo Dees. Here, She was known for her Welcome Addresses that she always took her precious time to write. Lula was a member of Mission II Auxiliary during her tenor at East Jerusalem and the same faith driven dedication instilled in here at Oak Ridge continued to followed her there.

After hurricane Katrina, Ms. Lula united with St. Matthew Missionary Baptist Church under the leadership of Rev. Michael A. Kelley; her theocratic dedication continued in all facets of her membership at St, Matthew and it was exemplified through the love she showed her church family and especially her Pastor. Mama Lula's favorite saying was "I love you and there's nothing you can do about it." Lula was faithful until her health began fail her.

If you truly knew Mother Lula, you would know her love for McDonald's sweet tea. She loved walking, she would walk and when offered a ride, she would decline because she just enjoyed walking so much. Ms. Lula was a very classy lady that enjoyed to dressing! And we would be remiss if we forget to mention how being a hard worker was apart of her character, with the goal to take care of her children as the center of her drive. Throughout the years, she held various jobs; a school bus driver for the Picayune School District, an 18-wheeler operator, and an employee of the Dupont Corporation.

Maw was loved by so many, near and far. She was a mother to not only her five children, but to her niece and nephew (Danielle and Patrick –whom she called Poppa Joe). She raised them as her own, while her sister (BJ) finished college.

Mama Lula loved all her grandchildren and great-grands dearly, but there was one that had a special place in her heart, Lawrence Woods. (Jr.). Her face would light up and all you had to do was say his name and her smile would widen, the bond that the two of them shared was like no other!

She is preceded in death by her parents; Mr. A. J. and Ida P. Evans; brothers; Isaac Evans, Bernard Evans, Jasper Evans and James Evans; sister, Brenda Evans and both her paternal and maternal grandparents.

She leaves to cherish her loving memories; Two Sons: Michael Evans, Sr. (Sonja) LA & Eric Evans, Sr. (Debbie) of Osyka, MS; Three daughters: Beverly Roberts (Scottie) and Yolanda Parish (Sterling) both of Picayune, MS and Octavia Price of Memphis, TN; and One Sister: Barbara "B.J." Evans of Kentwood, LA. and a host of family and friends!

Interment will be held at Good Hope Baptist Church Cemetery in Kentwood, La (Wilmer)
