Kingsley Blaine
Garrison
Mar 24, 1939 — Jan 21, 2021
Amite
Kingsley Blaine Garrison, a native of Ponchatoula, Louisiana, passed away on Thursday, January 21, 2021. Kingsley was born March 24, 1939 in what was called the Brickyard Road community to the Reverend Phillip Lucien Garrison, Sr. and Josie "Madie" Cain Garrison. He was the fourth sibling amongst seven, five preceded him in death, Lovie Dee, Yvonne, Alphonse, Carol, and Phil.
His primary educational training included Ponchatoula Colored Elementary School, Perrin Junior High, and Greenville Park High School. He furthered his education at Dillard University, Southern University, Southeastern Louisiana University, and The University of Southern Mississippi, where he obtained a Ph.D in communications.
Dr. Garrison worked as a professor, music supervisor, assistant principal, and a principal in Louisiana before retiring with more than 30 years of service. Kingsley was also member, a deacon, and pianist at his family church, St. Joseph Baptist Church in Ponchatoula, LA. He also played the piano for Morgan Chapel A.M.E. church and other churches in the area.
Kingsley was married to Della Mae Woolridge-Garrison for 45 years. The couple had one daughter, Leslie Lynette Garrison, and one grandson, Chandler Garrison Wilson.
One of Kingsley's biggest accomplishments was being a father. His child, Leslie, and those who considered him a father, called him their superhero, and even as adults, still see him that way. He was always there for them through their ups and downs, and taught them the value of a relationship with Christ. Kingsley exhibited characteristics, according to scripture, that were pleasing to God: He had a kind, gentle, loving, spirit.
He leaves to cherish his memory one daughter: Leslie L. Garrison, Washington, D.C.; one grandson, Chandler Garrison Wilson, Newport News, VA; one brother, Reverend Binkley Joseph, Ft Washington, MD; three sister-in-laws, one brother-in-law and a host of other nieces, nephews, relatives and friends
