Sis. Helen Delores Leonard Lewis
was born on May 11, 1927 to the late Floveal Leonard and Bertha Stewart. She was united in holy matrimony to the late Samuel Lewis, to this union 9 children were born. Sis. Helen gave her life to Christ and was baptized at an early age. She was a lifelong member of Leonard Chapel A.M.E Church. She was on the Stewart board, the church Secretary and Sunday School teacher.
Sis Helen was educated in Tangipahoa parish, receiving her high school diploma at OW Dillon in Kentwood, LA, and later attended Southeastern Louisiana University in Hammond, LA. After school she became an educator in the St. Helena Parish School System and later became a caregiver at Hammond State School where she retired after more than 30 years of service. She is the past Matriarch of the Stella Chapter #2 Eastern Stars. She departed this life on February 3, 2021 at Hood's Memorial Hospital.
She leaves to cherish her memories 9 children, Ronald S. Lewis, Willie E. Lewis, Jerome Lewis (Gloria), Presiding Elder Otis S. Lewis, Sr. (Connie), Leonard C. Lewis, Barbara Lewis Cutno (Clarence), Kelvin R. Lewis (Bobbie), Gerald A. Lewis and James T. Lewis; One Sister Clara H. Porter; Two Brothers Stewart Hall, Sterling Leonard (Catherine): Sister-in-law, Josephine Leonard, One Aunt Irma Jean Jones, 25 grandchildren, 50 great-grandchildren, and 7 great-great grandkids: three God-Children, Gayle Leonard, Susie Drummond, and Linda Cutno, and a host of nieces, nephews, and friends.
Sis. Helen Lewis is preceded in death by husband, Samuel Lewis, two grandchildren, Otis S. Lewis, Jr. and Jeremy Robertson, three brothers, and her parents, Floveal Leonard and Bertha Stewart Hall.
