The Lord allowed me to enter this world on January 6, 1952, in Amite County,
Mississippi. My mother was the late Mary Wessie Brown McGhee, and my living
father is L.C. McGhee. I would like to mention a father figure in my life, the late
George Womack, known as "Big W". I am the second child of ten, but I was always
the boss. I started school at Lula Woods Elementary in Osyka, MS in the late 1950s
and attended Eva Gordon High School in Magnolia, MS. My family attended Terry's
Creek Baptist Church, where I was baptized as a little girl. During my teenage years,
my life began moving quite quickly, and I put on my traveling shoes.
My family relocated from Osyka, MS to Picayune, MS, with relatives. After a short
while, that is when we set out for what I call my hometown, Kentwood, LA. During
this time, I met and became friends with Dorothy Cooper affectionately known as
"Lil Bit" and Norma Cooper affectionately known as "Pee Wee". I can say that
friendship carried all the way to the end. For a short time, I joined my Uncle Paul
Brown in Chicago, Illinois and eventually returned to Kentwood. After returning to
Kentwood, I had my baby Dewayne McGhee. Again, I put on my traveling shoes and
relocated to Texas, working for a seafood company for a while. Afterwards, I moved
back to Kentwood and met Linton Holloway, and we lived in New Orleans. Later,
we moved back to Kentwood, and he became my husband on January 14, 1985.
Together we raised and cared for six wonderful children. My family and I joined
Temple Chapel in the 80s and I was a proud member of the usher board, until I
relocated. I worked for Kellwood Sewing Factory, Kentwood Manor Nursing Home.
I also worked for Mrs. Sharon Peek, Mrs. Moddy Curter, Mrs. Georgia Yarbrough
and we became more than employer and employee, we became friends. I would also
like to mention Lilah Hampton, who became a close and kind friend.
My greatest accomplish in my life are all my children, grandchildren, and great
grandchildren. I was proceeded in death by my mother Wessie McGhee, my son
DeWayne McGhee, my stepdaughter Monica Ward, my niece Shantel McGhee, my
nephew Schdrick McKnight, three great grandchildren: Lakin Brumfield, Alajah
Brumfield, and Kaleah Rogers.
I leave behind, but not alone my husband Linton Holloway Sr., my children Greg
Donahue (Chandra) of Arlington, Texas Linton Holloway Jr. (Houston, TX), Tiffania
McGhee (Houston, TX), Deljuan McGhee (Amite, LA). I also leave behind my
grandbabies and great grandbabies; DeQuay McGhee, Gregg Donahue, Greggg
Donahue, Anda Donahue, Charley Donahue, Quasha Brumfield, Shakia Holloway,
Tyranny McGhee, Braniff Sibley Jr., Navarri McGhee, Ravyne McGhee, Corey Ward,
Rantrell Ward, James Brumfield, Layla Brumfield, Logan Brumfield, Tristan McGhee,
and Shakia's carrying a baby girl. Even though we were together a long time, I leave
behind my dear father, L.C. McGhee and supportive brothers and sisters; Mayola
Chapman, Lonnel McGhee, Lonnie McGhee, Abbysenia (Dalfrin Walls), Larry
(Emma Lee) McGhee, Deborah (Rodney) Robertson, Bernard (Mattie) McGhee,
Loretta Alsworth, and Otis McGhee. Lastly, I leave a host of nieces and nephews,
who always had my heart. Be sweet Until we meet again.
