Mrs. Clara P. Couch was born on December 10, 1925 to the late Grant Patton Jr. and Elena Patton in Chidester, Arkansas. Mrs. Clara gained her heavenly wings on April 8, 2020 at North Oaks Medical Center in Hammond, Louisiana.
She met and later married the love of her life, the late James B. Couch in 1954. They soon moved to Independence, Louisiana. She was a dedicated wife and mother. She did all she could to build a loving home for her children, because motherhood was her greatest joy.
Mrs. Clara was a kind, friendly, and patient woman with a heart of gold. She always found time to do a good deed for someone. Her hobbies included: raising a garden, fishing, sewing, traveling, and helping to raise her grandchildren.
After the death of her husband James and soon after the death of her father of which she was his caretaker, Clara and her children joined St. Paul Baptist Church in Independence, LA. The family was baptized by the late Rev. Matthew Williams.
While a member of St. Paul B.C., Mrs. Clara served as a Sunday School teacher, and President of the Home Mission. In 1976, Clara and her family joined the Zion Travelers Missionary Baptist Church in Independence, LA under the leadership of the late Rev. T.T. Robertson. While a member of Zion Travelers B.C., She organized the Home Mission Department and served as President for 7 years. She also taught Sunday School. Mrs. Clara enjoyed discussing the bible and writing down her favorite scriptures. In Later Years, she joined Greater St. James Missionary Baptist Church in Tickfaw, La under the leadership of the late Rev. Dr. Wilbert Jones. Rev. Dr. Monroe C. Jones Sr. was her pastor until God called her home.
Mrs. Clara leaves to cherish her precious memory, 7 children: Jerry Patton (Mary) of Seaford, DE, Joyce Patton Starks of Queenvillage, NY, Lenard "Paul" Patton (Jo Ann) of Hammond, LA, James"Jack" Latin Jr (Sandra) of Independence, LA, Johnny Couch Sr. of Tickfaw, LA, Zella Nicholes of Roseland LA, and Faith Zachary (Nelson) of Lawtell, LA. 24 Grandchildren, 43 Great Grandchildren, 7 Great-Great Grandchildren, a host of special nieces and nephews, and a godson, Howard Burton of Hammond, LA.
She was preceeded in death by her parents, Grant Patton Jr. and Elena Patton, her husband, James B. Couch, and her 3 beloved children: Edward "Peter" Latin, Cathy Patton, and Ora Dee Mcgee.
