Anthony "August" Douglas, Jr. was born June 20, 1954, in New Orleans, La. to the union of Anthony August Douglas, Sr. and the late Geraldine Theresa (Douglas) Skinner. In his youth, August traveled the world with his parents and siblings while his father served in the United States Airforce, taking up international residency in the Philippines as well as nationally residing in North Dakota, Oklahoma and California. After completing military family tours, August culminated his education in New Orleans, La. and graduated from Walter L. Cohen High School in 1973. While attending Cohen high school, he was a member of the school's marching band as a trombone player. After graduating from high school, he began his first career as a furniture manufacturer, where he manufactured mattresses and delivered furniture employed by Sleep Air Factory in New Orleans, La. for 17years.
In 1988, August began his second career as a Construction Forman and Independent Contractor where he managed commercial and residential constructions in Atlanta, Ga, and New Orleans, La. Being a construction professional became more than just a job for him; it was what he was born to do, and he owned his craft with pride. Due to failing health and disability, in 2007, August retired as an Independent Construction Contractor.
August did not only have a love for his profession in construction, but he had an even greater love for music. He was a true artist in his own right with the gift of playing multiple instruments as a hobby. His passion was for all genres of music, but he had a special love for jazz.
In 1976, he married Landa Gail Harrison. To this union was born Chanell, Crystal, and Anthony (Lil August) III. After 14 years, their union dissolved, but they maintained a co-parenting relationship. August departed this life on Friday, October 25, 2019, at North Oaks Medical Center of Hammond, LA, due to complications of Acute Myeloid Leukemia. He is survived by his siblings, Kirk Douglas, Janet Douglas, and Sandra Douglas-Cutrer, and proceeded in death by his mother Geraldine Theresa Skinner, and his brother Calvin Labee.
August leaves to cherish in memory his father Anthony August Douglas Sr., his son Anthony August Douglas, III in Hammond, La., three daughters Chanell Douglas in Dallas, TX; Crystal (Willie) Harper in Houston, TX and Ja'Dina Skinner in High Point, NC, brother Kirk Douglas, Sr in New Orleans, La, two sisters Janet Douglas in Houston, TX and Sandra Douglas-Cutrer in Independence, La, grandchildren, Micheal (Aleesha) in Colorado Springs, Co., Nickolas in New Orleans, La., Aja and Christian in Houston, TX, Kelvin, Jasmine, Kamron, Jada, Jade and, Klyar in Houston, TX and, Ja'Lea of High Point, NC, four great-grand childing along with a host of nieces, nephews other relatives and friends.
