The angel of the Lord has visited again and chosen from among us one of the best.
Brother Alfloyd East, Sr. passed to his heavenly reward on Wednesday, August 26, 2020, at approximately 03:43 a.m., at Ochsner Medical Center in Kenner, Louisiana.
Brother East was born on May 16, 1945 in Montpelier, LA to the union of Leon and Caroline Graves East. He was born into the COGIC denomination where he proudly served under the leadership of Elder Morris at Morris Chapel COGIC in Montpelier, LA. He was drafted into the U.S. Army and proudly served his country from November 1966 to November 1968. After discharge, he moved to New Orleans, Louisiana where he transferred his membership the St. James COGIC in Shrewsberry, LA under the leadership of Elder W.B. Foster and later transferred to Faithful Word Assembly in Kenner, LA under the leadership of Pastor Russell Tardo.
Brother East was united in Holy Matrimony to Sis. Colleen Genovia Harrell on March 15, 1969, and to this union, one biological son was born. God later blessed them to become the parents of another son.
Brother East was a man who had a good heart and knew the word of God. His hard work, insightful ways, wonderful sense of humor and wise old sayings will be missed by all who knew him. He loved everyone and was always willing to help.
The final chapter in the Book of Life for Brother Alfloyd East, Sr. has been completed. He leaves to cherish his memories: Two (2) sons: Alfloyd East, Jr. (Yulonda) of Saint Rose, LA and Dalton J. Harrell, Sr (Danyatta) of Fort Worth, TX. Three (3) brothers: Gerald (Irene) and George (Sheila) of Kenner, LA and Joe Willie (Gloria) of Baton Rouge, LA. One (1) uncle: Tollie of Kenner, LA. Six grandchildren, four great-grandchildren, and a host of nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
Brother East was preceded in death by his wife: Colleen Genovia Harrell East, parents, Leon and Caroline Graves East, three brothers, Leon, LeeVern and David East, two sisters, Carolyn East and Tollie Ann East Washington, three brothers-in-law, Ellis Milton Harrell, Robert Lee Harrell, Lawrence "Buster" Dyson, Sr. and Earl Richardson, Sr., two sisters-in-law, Mary "Dena" Robertson and Linda East.
